Welcome, horse fans!

We’ve made some improvements to the breeding system in Rival Stars Horse Racing to make your experience more enjoyable and successful. This guide will walk you through the details of Crossbreeding and Traits, Traits inheritance, and foal care. Whether you’re new to breeding horses or a seasoned pro, you’ll find helpful information here to help you build a top-notch stable!

Crossbreeding and Traits

This section will guide you through the nuances of Traits, Breeds and Crossbreeding within the game, equipping you with the knowledge to create a diverse and competitive stable.

Breeds

All horses within Rival Stars Horse Racing have a breed they belong to. These distinct horse breeds can be found throughout the game, adding diversity to your stable!

Breeds in Rival Stars Horse Racing:

  • (TB) Thoroughbred
  • (SF) Selle Français
  • (AH) Arabian
  • (QH) Quarter Horse

Crossbreeding

Crossbreeding combines different breeds to produce a foal that is a unique blend of its parents. Here’s how it works:

  • If your horse has less than 90% of any particular breed (e.g, Selle Francais), it will no longer be a purebred and will instead be considered a crossbreed.
  • If you breed a crossbreed to have more than 90% of any one breed, it will be considered a purebred.
  • Breed proportions of Foals are always an even distribution of their parent’s genetic makeup. Two different purebreds will always produce a 50-50 crossbreed.
  • A crossbreed can have no more than four breeds in its genetic makeup.

The exact outcome of your foal’s breed is shown in the ‘Definite Breed Makeup’ on the Breeding Screen.

Traits

The Traits system adds an exciting layer to Rival Stars Horse Racing, transforming the way you breed and compete. With strategic pairings and dedicated care, you can blend traits and breeds in innovative ways that reflect your goals and playstyle.

Explore a variety of traits that improve performance, offer energy savings, or provide breeding advantages, allowing you to craft a diverse stable like never before.

Trait Types

Traits are grouped by types:

  • Standard â€”- these are the most common type of Trait you will see and can be found widely across the game.
  • Breed â€”- Unique Traits commonly associated with specific breeds (i.e., (TB) Thoroughbreds are known for their excellent speed over short to medium distances).
  • Breed Pro – An upgraded version of a Breed Trait, if your horse crosses the 80% threshold of its dominant breed.
  1. Your foal has a breed makeup of 80% or more from a specific breed.
  2. Your foal inherits a trait that belongs to its dominant breed.
  • Star Club Traits â€”- can only be found on Star Club studs.
  • Exotic Traits â€”- These are only found during Exotic Traits events and can combine multiple race types and effects.

In addition to Type, each Trait has a shape which indicates what mode/s they apply to in the game (e.g., Flat Racing or Steeplechase). Some can affect multiple modes while ‘Misc’ as well. If you want to know more information about a Trait, you can see more in Horse Details or by tapping on the Trait icon.

Traits Inheritance

A foal will inherit:

  • The majority of its Traits from its parents.
  • At least 1 Trait from the Random Trait Pool, unless the parents don’t have enough Traits to fill the number of Trait slots the foal has.
  • Inherit more from the genetic variance pool if the parents don’t have enough traits to fill the number of trait slots the foal has.
  • Have an increased chance of inheriting a trait if both parents share the same trait.
  • Never have two of the same Trait.

Foal Care

After your mare is finished foaling, you will meet your cute newborn foal! Here, you can browse the stats, genes, and Traits to decide whether you want to care for, sell or age up your new foal.

A foal’s mother will stay in the Foaling Stall until the foal is born, so she won’t be able to compete during this time. She can be used again for racing and competing once the foal is born. Keep that in mind when breeding your best horses together.

Foal Care and Bonuses

By caring for your foal regularly and feeding it, you’ll help them develop extra bonus stats. You will need to regularly check in and feed your foal to get the most amount of bonus points available.

Caretakers

To ensure your foal reaches its full potential, consider hiring a Caretaker. With a Caretaker, you’ll benefit from:

  • Trait Change: If you’re wanting a different trait you can change one using a caretaker. This replacement will be randomly selected from traits your foal hasn’t inherited from its parents or, if necessary, from the Random Trait Pool.
  • Max Stat Bonus: Your foal will receive the maximum possible bonus points for its grade without having to regularly check in on them, contributing to its overall performance and competitiveness.

Subscriber Benefits

If you’re a Starclub subscriber, you get a caretaker automatically hired upon the birth of your foal.  This gives you guaranteed stat point bonuses and a trait change if you choose to use it.

Bonus Stat Point Distribution

The bonus stats earned through Foal Care will be randomly assigned across your horse’s stats. They can’t be inherited by that horse’s future offspring, but they do give you an extra edge in competitions!

If your foal doesn’t need the extra care, or if you’ve already hired a Caretaker to guarantee your bonus stats, you can click ‘skip to mare/stud’ at any point to instantly get your foal race-ready!
